Appearance: Kaoru isn't particularly tall, nor does he have a particularly athletic build; in fact, most would describe him on the distinctly small side, reaching just under five foot five and weighing a little over fifty kilograms. For the most part, his clothing style is incredibly indistinct, simply wearing clothing that is comfortable and seems to prefer clothing with darker colours, rather than lighter ones. As a result of this, his hair colour tends to contrast with whatever he's wearing, since his hair is blonde. His eyes are a dark brown. Appearance-wise there is very little that would probably allow one to commit Kaoru to memory other than his extremely expressive face, which reflects his emotions perfectly, and Kaoru makes very little (if not no) attempt to hide. His natural expression is described by many as 'sleepy'.
Personality: In short, Kaoru is an average guy; he wants to have friends, a family and most importantly, not be involved in anything that might get him or those that he cares about killed. This is reflected in his personality; as a very expressive man, his feelings are, even if he's not saying anything, clearly expressed in his face. For the most part, if life is going his way (he's of the opinion that it very rarely goes his way, but that's an entirely different matter), his attitude is to take things more or less as they come, working with what he has to make things go right for him. When things don't, however, depending on the exact nature of just how 'wrong' things have gone, his natural reaction is mostly to try and persuade others to see his point of view and to get them to go along with what he is saying (mostly, it's too be said, with earnest yelling). He doesn't like being thrown into the unknown and being forced to do things against his will and will try his best to try and return to whatever was his state of normalcy prior to that event.

Kaoru never knew his parents and it's implied that they didn't want to know him, and he doesn't have any friends (at least, not in 2006). Basically, he's rather lonely and doesn't seem to be able to do anything to change that fact. It also happens to be reflected in his interactions with others, with him clinging to anything that resembles friendship and doing his utmost not to lose it and appears to have an intense dislike - and fear - of conflict.

Despite this, he has a strong streak of determination and a wish to try and change things for the better. He's also incredibly ready to admit if he's made a mistake, and will do anything he can to change it back to how it was.
Special Skills: Kaoru doesn't have a great number of skills with the exception of his determination. He has a limited effectiveness in hand-to-hand combat (relying more on rather desperate moves and scrambling, it has to be said). He is, however, exceptionally graceful and light on his feet, and incredibly talented at dance, going so far as to say that it's the 'one thing he can do'.
Weaknesses: He has a fear of being forgotten as well as being afraid of conflict. His rather poor at getting across his point at times, resorting to simply yelling at the person to try and get them to see his point.

History: ((For this to make much sense, I'm going to give a brief summary of the fandom. Tensei Kunpuu is a stage play, part of the Puu-series (as an aside, there are four and Tensei Kunpuu was the one set - at times - in the most recent day [2006]) and each play within the series tells the story of a different character, each appearing to, in short, be a re-incarnation of the same 'guy' as it were. Kaoru Kazamine appears to be a reincarnation of Souji Okita (re: Bakumatsu Banpuu stageplay). Each play is set within a different era important to Japanese history. The reincarnations appear to show the progression of a person (term used loosely) and their feelings with regards to the world and what can be acheived on a personal and more broad note. Of course, this doesn't directly impact on the character per se as he doesn't remember anything from his 'previous' lives, but it's important with regards to how much sense his history in Tensei Kunpuu makes. I hope you don't mind how I've chosen to do this s-since it's rather confusing. I hope it makes enough sense)).

Kaoru Kazamine prior to arriving, had something of an eclectic life; for one reason or another, he found himself forced to work for a scientist who had developed a time machine and, more specifically, a coat that allows the wearer to travel through time and possess various abilities that they otherwise wouldn't have (swordplay, kung-fu and dance, the latter of which Kaoru is skilled at naturally anyway). When first forced to use the coat, Kaoru finds himself transported back to 1864 and in the middle of a battle. Two men with swords approach him and state that they aren't going to let 'Souji get away this time'. Kaoru is, of course, confused and tries to state that 'he's Kazamine Kaoru!' Of course, the two swordsmen don't feel particularly inclined to believe him ("only Souji could have that kind of sleepy face!"). Kaoru, via use of the watch attached to the coat, realises he is in the year 1864 and proceeds to completely panic and wonder how on earth he can get this coat to work and send him back to 2006. He proceeds to be saved by two Shinsengumi who also mistake him for Souji and ask him what he's doing running away. After several more moments of panicking, Kaoru manages to get the coat to work to save him and send him back to 2006.

Back in the scientists lab, Kaoru yells at the scientist, telling him that this isn't what he signed up for and that he could have died. After it's explained to him precisely what the coat does, Kaoru still argues and the scientist decides to say that Kaoru has 'no dreams' and it's not as if anyone would 'care if he dies'. Kaoru feels decidedly peeved at this comment and ends up fighting with the scientists' two helpers before the time machine is once again activated and Kaoru runs into it, aiming to escape the scientist.

Kaoru collapses and upon waking, finds that he is in the year 1623, a little over 200 years prior to the era he had previously found himself in. The people who are around him when he wakes up are part of an acting troupe and they yell at him for interrupting their play and try to get him to apologise. He doesn't, of course (several of the acting troupe greatly resemble the scientist and his companions, who Kaoru considers to be evil). It's at this point that it's discovered that the acting troupe believe Kaoru to be Sasuke who had suffered an unexplained demise (or so everyone believed until Kaoru appeared).

His life progresses for a very short time with this acting troupe with him trying to convince them that he's not Sasuke, them believing he is, and all of them suffering repeated attacks with the aim of them all - and particularly 'Sasuke' - being killed. Some time down the line, the entirety of the acting troupe is killed before Kaoru's eyes as they attempted to save him. They are the first people he has known to be friends and he activates the coat in an attempt to get revenge. Afterwards, Kaoru appears horrified with what he has just done, and ends up transported back to 2006. Here, he discovers that dance and acting has more or less been wiped out as a result of the acting troupes death. The long and short of it is that Kaoru returns to 1623 prior to the attack on him and the troupe and manages to overcome his dear of both dying and being involved in conflict to help save them. Despite the fact that this time they aren't as prepared to lay down their own lives for him (as a result of different actions on Kaoru's part, alongside him returning at a different point in time), he is prepared to die for them and tells them that even though they don't remember, they were the first people willing to do such a thing for him, and he needs to repay them and his life 'doesn't matter anyway'. Regardless, none of them (the troupe and Kaoru) die and he succeeds in stopping Sasuke's dream of a acting and dance die.

After this, Kaoru is returned to 2006, complete with memory loss of who he is. A woman, seemingly from the troupe, helps him regain his memory by showing him he wasn't forgotten, that his story (and coat) was passed from generation to generation with the aim of once again meeting Kaoru in 2006.
